Bespoke Shaker Style Banquette Seating Project Near Barnstaple

We recently completed a bespoke banquette seating project for clients in the beautiful village of Goodleigh, just outside of Barnstaple in North Devon.

The clients originally found us through Facebook and got in touch looking for a custom-built seating solution that would suit both the character of their home and the layout of the space. Set within picturesque North Devon countryside, the property was a fantastic place to work and the project quickly became one of those jobs that reminds you why bespoke carpentry is so rewarding.

Designing a Bespoke Seating Area

As with many fitted furniture projects, the key was designing something that worked perfectly within the available space while also matching the style of the property.

After discussing ideas with the clients, we designed a bespoke shaker style banquette seating area complete with tongue and groove panelling to give it a timeless fitted look.

Accurate drawings and measurements were produced before work began so the clients could visualise the finished result and ensure every detail was right before installation.

Overcoming Uneven Walls and Out-of-Square Surfaces

One of the biggest challenges on this project was the condition of the existing walls and floor.

Like many older properties in Devon, the room had walls that were uneven and significantly out of square, which meant every section had to be carefully scribed and adjusted during installation to achieve a clean and seamless fit.

This is where bespoke carpentry really stands apart from flat-pack or off-the-shelf furniture. Every part of the seating was individually made and adjusted to suit the space perfectly.

The finished seating also included a custom access hatch built into the design, allowing the clients easy access to electrical points hidden behind the seating.

A Fully Custom Finish

The clients chose to complete the decorating themselves, allowing them to finish the furniture in their own chosen colour and style once installation was complete.

The project took approximately five days from start to finish and the clients were extremely happy with the outcome. By the end of the job, discussions had already started around potential future projects.

And as an added bonus, there were regular visits from ducks wandering in through the back door during the week — definitely one of the more memorable site companions we've had while working in North Devon.
