Shaker Bench Seating with Storage in Barnstaple

A recent project in Barnstaple involved creating a made-to-measure shaker-style bench seat with integrated storage, combined with tongue and groove panelling running from the seat all the way up to the ceiling.

The client originally contacted me through the LMF Carpentry website to discuss their ideas and requested a quote for the project. After discussing what they wanted, I designed and built the seating and panelling to suit the space.

Shaker bench seating with storage

The main feature of the project was the shaker-style bench seating, with useful storage incorporated into the base.

The seating was designed to make good use of the available space while providing a comfortable area to sit and practical storage underneath.

Above the seat, tongue and groove panelling runs all the way up to the ceiling, creating a strong vertical feature and helping to give the seating a more substantial, built-in appearance.

Feature shelf and cornice detail

A feature shelf was incorporated into the panelling towards the top of the wall. As it sits close to the ceiling, the shelf is primarily a decorative detail rather than intended for everyday use.

The shelf adds another layer of detail to the panelling and helps break up the height of the wall.

Cornice moulding was then added at the top of the panelling, helping to tie the different elements together and give the finished seating area a more traditional shaker-style feel.

The combination of the shaker seating, tongue and groove panelling, feature shelf and cornice creates a cohesive built-in feature that adds both character and practical storage to the room.

Another project for a returning client

It's always particularly rewarding when a client finds you through your website and then asks you to take on further work.

I'm also returning to this Barnstaple home next month to carry out another project for the same clients, so it's great to know they were happy with the finished seating and trusted me with another part of their home.

If you're considering fitted bench seating, storage, wall panelling or other carpentry and joinery work in Barnstaple and across North Devon, get in touch to discuss your project.
