The dust has officially settled in Landkey. What started as a busy week of prepping timber has resulted in two fully transformed rooms. There is a specific kind of pride in seeing a multi-room project come together—moving from one finished space into the next and seeing the same high standard of joinery flow through the house.

Room Two: The Final Install

While the first bedroom focused on a full suite of wardrobes and panelling, the second room brought its own set of unique North Devon cottage "quirks." As any local joiner knows, straight walls are a luxury we rarely find here!

This second space is now complete, featuring matching Shaker-style cabinetry that mirrors the clean lines of the master bedroom. By keeping the design consistent across both rooms, we’ve created a sense of harmony throughout the home. Every scribe is tight, every hinge is set, and the storage is now fully optimised for the client’s needs.

The "Raw" Reveal: Ready for Paint

A common question I get is about the finishing process. For this project, my work ends where the decorator's begins. Both rooms have been handed over in their "raw" state—meticulously sanded and ready for the client to apply their chosen palette.

I actually love this stage. Without the paint, the quality of the craftsmanship is front and centre. You can see the precision in the recessed panels and the way the bespoke units sit perfectly against the Landkey masonry. Whether the client goes for a bold navy or a soft neutral, the "bones" of these rooms are now built to last a lifetime.

What’s Next on the Bench?

As I pack the van and leave this project behind, the cycle begins again. The workshop in North Devon is never empty for long; I’m already looking at the timber for the next commission.

Seeing a project through from raw materials to a two-room completion is what makes this job so rewarding. It’s not just about wardrobes; it’s about making a house feel like a home.
